On 17 November 2016 a group of students from two lyceums of Comrat visited the CCM and attended a public session of the Court.
Aiming to elevate the legal culture and general knowledge about the Constitution of the students from the UTA Găgăuzia region, the Court was visited by a group of students from two institutions of secondary education: Theoretical Lyceum ” G.A. Gaidarji” with teaching in the Gagauz language and Theoretical Lyceum ”Mihai Eminescu”with teaching in Romanian.
The students attended the public session of the CCM, where they had the opportunity to hear the oral arguments of the parties and the Courts' judgment. Following the meeting, the students had a presentation of Court's activities made by the ex-judge of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, Prof. Dr. Toma Birmontiene, who works within the EU project supporting the CCM. The presentation consisted of an introduction to constitutional law and a review of CCM activity. Also, the judge answered the questions that students asked her.
At the end of the visit, the students from Comrat received a pocket-size Constitution, published in 2016 in the Gagauz language. This publication will prove useful to the students including by the fact that it contains the Declaration of Independence, as well as extracts from the CCM judgment of 5 December 2013, by which was recognized that the Declaration of Independence has constitutional value and together with the Constitution forms the "block of constitutionality" of the RM.
Thus, the CCM continues the tradition of communication with institutions of secondary education, being previously visited by students from Vulcănești, Ungheni and Tiraspol.
This visit was carried out with the assistance of the EU Project „Support for the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova”.
