Valeria ȘTERBEȚ

Born on 15 November 1946 in Michiurin village, district of Drokia, Republic of Moldova. She graduated from the Pedagogical School of district Soroca in 1966 and between 1966 and 1967 was engaged as teacher at the Secondary School of village Radeni-Vechi, district of Ungheni. From 1967 to 1972 she attended the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova. In 1972 she was engaged as superior counsellor at the Ministry of Justice. From 1973 to 1984 worked as Judge and President of the Law Court of district Ungheni and during 1984-1996 as Judge at the Supreme Law Court of the Republic of Moldova. Between 1995 and 1997 was Secretary of the Central Electoral Commission. In 1996 was appointed Judge at the Supreme Court of Justice and in 1998 became its Vice-President. From 1999 to 2001 was Minister of Justice. Since 2001 was President of the Supreme Court of Justice and President of the Supreme Council of Magistrates. In 2003 she earned her doctor degree in constitutional law. In 2005 was confirmed in function of President of the Supreme Court of Justice. On 15 February 2007 was appointed Judge of the Constitutional Court for a six-year term of office.

She participated at the elaboration of the national legislation and attended a series of international, regional and national conferences, including the 10^th Congress of UN.

She is the author and co-author of such books, as: "Judicial and law reform in the Republic of Moldova - achievements, problems, perspectives" (2004), "Commentary of the Criminal Code", Commentary of the Criminal procedure Code" (2005), "Collection of explicative judgements of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Justice"(2006), " The Judge's guide" (2006), "Supreme Court of Justice - 10 years from the establishment" (2006), "Judge's handbook in examining civil causes" (2006), etc.

She earns the superior degree of judge qualification and was awarded in 1996 with the Medal of Civil Merit, in 2001 with the Order of Labour Glory and in 2006 with the Order of the Republic.
