Friday, 25 November 2016, the judges of the Constitutional Court of Moldova (CCM) participated in the solemn assembly at the Patriarchal Palace in Bucharest, on the occasion of 150th anniversary of the 1866 Constitution of Romania and 25th anniversary of the 1991 Constitution of Romania.

Mr. Dacian Cioloș - Prime Minister of Romania, Mr. Valer Dorneanu - President of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) and Mr. Alexandru Tănase - President of the CCM, delivered speeches at the event.

Addressing the distinguished audience, Mr. Alexandru Tănase thanked the president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament, the President of the Romanian Constitutional Court and the President of the Romanian Academy for the invitation to attend the event.

Mr. Alexandru Tanase underscored that the 1866 Constitution of Romania represents a common element of the constitutional identity of both Romania and Republic of Moldova, being applied on the territory of Bessarabia between the Great Union and the adoption of the 1923 Constitution.

At the same time, the President of the CCM mentioned that the Republic of Moldova, by adopting its own Constitution in 1994, has drawn inspiration from the 1991 Constitution of Romania and therefore, besides the cultural, linguistic and value identity of the people living in the Republic of Moldova and Romania, there is a common constitutional identity, born from the values of the European civilization.

In conclusion, the President of the CCM congratulated the justices of the Romanian Constitutional Court for watching over the values of the rule of law, the democratic values and that observance for human rights shall never be emptied of content.
