2017 The Constitutional Court of Moldova was unanimously elected to hold presidency of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts for the period 2020-2023The delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova (CCM) participated at the XVIIth Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts (CECC) held in Batumi, Georgia, on 29-30 June 2017. The Constitutional Court of Moldova was represented by Mr Tudor Panţîru, President of CCM, Aurel Băieşu, Judge, and Rodica Secrieru, Chief Assistant-Judge. The Congress took place under the generic “Role of the Constitutional Courts in Upholding and Applying the Constitutional Principles”. The Congress reunited presidents and judges of the constitutional courts and similar institutions from the European continent. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova was elected by unanimity of votes to hold the presidency of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts for the period 2020-2023. The Court to hold the presidency of the CECC is elected by a vote of at least two-thirds of the participating States. In this context, the election of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova by unanimity of votes represents a recognition of the Court independence, as well as the quality of its activity which corresponds to European standards.
The first Conference took place in Dubrovnik, 1972. Essentially, it was meant to provide a regular basis for the exchange of experience in constitutional practice and jurisprudence in a general, European context, with due regard for the principle of judicial independence. CCM became a full member of CECC in 2000 and actively participated in the activity of this professional organisation. |
